Philippe Buil is a Saint-Etienne artist who creates steel sculptures.


These purified works tend towards minimalism and existentialism. Philippe works mostly new steel, which completely releases his creativity and allows him to give patinas different from the shiny steel matte black. His work is neat and the finishes are of quality, going up to the brilliant mirror. His innovative technique of modeling steel gives some of his works an appearance close to the bronzes. Philippe's creations are contemporary and he does not hesitate to vary the subjects. His relationship with steel is unique, in his hands, steel becomes like modeling clay: it twists, cuts, soda, makes him take the forms he wants. In his studio, Philippe is the master. Initially, there are bars or steel plates, and in his head an idea of ​​sculpture. Then when the time is right, Philippe starts his "machines" and the steel meets the saw, the bender, the bending machine, the torch, sometimes the forge ... And a few hours later, the sculpture takes shape. Some finishing works later, the piece is polished, patinated or varnished and is ready to leave the workshop, the alchemy worked...
